The SUMO Cannabis team is pleased to announce that it has obtained its cannabis production license, issued on February 25, 2022, by Health Canada. In practical terms, this means that cannabis can now be produced using aeroponic cultivation directly at the Parent Boulevard facility in Trois-Rivières.
“Today is an important day in the history of SUMO Cannabis. We have been waiting for several months for this green light from Health Canada to officially launch our facility. All our equipment is ready, and production of the first plants will begin very soon,” said Éric Morel, General Manager of SUMO Cannabis.
It is worth recalling that five years ago, Éric Morel and his two partners, Francis Descôteaux and Jonathan Bossé, came up with the idea of producing premium cannabis, carefully cultivated with attention to detail, in Trois-Rivières.
“We are very happy to reach this new milestone, but above all, we are extremely proud. Over the past few months, we have worked hard to transform the former International Sleep Center into a cannabis production facility, with every aspect of the construction carefully planned down to the smallest details,” added Mr. Morel.
Indeed, throughout every stage of construction, nothing was left to chance. Equipment disinfection rooms, a nursery, sorting rooms, secure storage, and employee locker rooms designed to meet pharmaceutical-grade hygiene and sanitation standards, everything was thoughtfully planned.
The next phase of the project involves obtaining a processing license to allow for sales, extraction procedures, and packaging. At that stage, SUMO Cannabis also plans to enter the medical cannabis market.
In the near future, high-quality cannabis bearing the SUMO name could still make its way onto the shelves of the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC), as SUMO Cannabis will be able to partner with another licensed holder for the processing and packaging of its products.
